Sharing Lived Experience Knowledge about School Can’t in Canberra

Come along to connect with other parents/carers with lived experience, supporting students who have experienced distress about attending school.  Hear parents/carers who have walked in your shoes share how they survived and supported their children.  Tiffany Westphal (board member of School Can’t Australia) will speak about why the group uses the term school can’t and will share some of the knowledge co-created by the group.  She will be joined by parents: Michelle Hatton (past group admin) and Glynn Masterman who will share their experiences.

Laura Nuttall MLA has generously offered to host this event and is eager to hear from parents in the ACT about the things they are struggling with in order to advocate for policy and funding that supports the school can’t community.  Here is a message from Laura:

Yuma-- I'm Laura. I've been the ACT Greens spokesperson for education since I became a Member of the Legislative Assembly in November of last year.

I have a lot of empathy for students, parents and carers who struggle with school can't. Being diagnosed in high school with anxiety and later in life with ADHD, there were a couple of times school can't could have played a big role in my life if things had gone a little differently. What I'd love to see is an education system that's much more knowledgeable and empathetic towards school can't, and to draw deeply and sincerely from the lived experience of students, parents and carers in this space.
